Nissan takes ‘Excellence in Climate Solutions’ award for pioneering electric technology

Japanese firm praised for vehicle-to-grid recharging infrastructure and second-life battery systems.

Nissan has been commended for its pioneering electric technology, picking up the ‘Excellence in Climate Solutions’ award at the FT/ITC Transformational Awards.

The Japanese firm received the award, which is handed out by the Financial Times and International Finance Corp, thanks to its vehicle-to-grid charging infrastructure and second-life battery systems.

Its vehicle-to-grid system allows energy from electric cars to be fed back to the electricity grid — allowing consumers to better manage energy supply, while also increasing stability and sustainability of the grid.

The firm also recycles discarded batteries from its Leaf and NV200 vehicles by repurposing them as energy storage units in homes.

Daniele Schillaci, executive vice president of Nissan, said: “This recognition validates Nissan’s continuing efforts to integrate EV technology into society.

UK residents can now also take advantage of a new electrical technology from the Japanese manufacturer. Nissan Solar Energy brings a package of solar panels, battery storage and a home energy management system to housing, allowing for more efficient energy use.
