Toyota celebrates Yaris’ 20th anniversary with limited-run model

The Y20 includes a gold body to match the original Yaris from 1998.

To commemorate 20 years on sale, Toyota has revealed a limited-run version of the Yaris supermini which will get its public debut next month.

Called the Y20, this anniversary model has been released to celebrate the Japanese brand’s most successful supermini that made its first appearance back in 1998.

Toyota has commissioned 1,998 Launch Editions of the car to be built and it comes with a dual-tone body as well as 16-inch 10-spoke alloy wheels, grey front grille, side mouldings and a contrasting grey roof to complement the gold paint that mirrors the body colour used on the first Yaris.

The Y20 will go into full production in 2019 and will be fitted with tinted rear windows, a dark grey interior theme with chequered upholstery and contrasting exterior paint choices.

Toyota will be revealing the new Yaris range at the 2018 Paris Motor Show on October 2 – with the Launch Edition Y20 acting as the centrepiece for the brand’s display.

Built at the Valenciennes plant in north-east France, the Yaris has been Toyota’s best-selling European supermini made its debut at the Paris Motor Show in 1998 and went on sale that same year.
